What is Pinnacle?

The measuring stick

What is Pinnacle?

A place that takes bets and says it welcomes winners.
Many sportsbooks cut you off when you start winning. Pinnacle says it doesn’t.
So its last price before the game is the hardest one to fool. Smart bettors push it to the right number.
We use that price like a scale at the store. We put your bet on it and see what it weighs.
Is it ever wrong?
Yes. On any one game it can be wrong. No price is always right.
Over lots of games it has held up very well. That is what the studies below found.
Who else uses it?
Sportsbooks and touts watch this price too.
Pinnacle sells its prices to other betting companies. In 2020 one of them, FansUnite, announced a deal to use Pinnacle’s odds in the system it sells to sportsbooks.
Betting guides say books like Pinnacle post their prices first, and many sportsbooks follow. We could not find a study that counts how many.
Services that grade tipsters use it too. One says every bet it tracks is tied to Pinnacle’s odds. So when a tout says “I beat the closing line”, this is the line they mean. We let you check it yourself.
Want proof?
A man who studies betting prices checked nearly 88,000 soccer games. A better price than Pinnacle’s last one really did pay off, just as predicted.
An economist looked at basketball and found the same thing. He also found that a better price does not guarantee a win.
Those are soccer and basketball. For football we only have our own tests, and they are small.
Other names we use for it
• The market’s final price
• The honest price
• The winners’ bookmaker price
• The final price at a bookmaker that welcomes winners
They all mean the same thing.
Do we get paid if you bet there?
No. We don’t send you to Pinnacle. We pay for its prices. Checking your pick is free.
Know Your Tout is not a sportsbook and does not sell picks. If you bet, bet for fun, not for income. The odds, and our own test, say the money goes the other way. If betting stops being fun, call 1-800-GAMBLER (US, free and confidential).
